Meet the 2020 Staff

Teresa Ferreira, Camp Director

“Welcome to Camp Pugwash! I am excited to serve as your Camp Director this Summer! I am joined in the Maritime Conference by my husband, Brian, and my daughter, Sophia (both pictured) — we are #3Ministers4HIM. I was born in New Brunswick, moved to Ontario when I was 10 and spent 17 years in the US being educated and serving in our Adventist Educational Institutions, including two years abroad teaching in Taiwan and China. God called me back to Canada in 2013, and I’ve been serving Him in some form of leadership within our Church since then. Since my very first job interview in Michigan I have said that my passion is to ‘keep young people in our Church and on fire for Jesus’! One of my favourite texts is Psalm 16:8 – ‘I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken’.”

Our theme this year is to “Be the Light” so the staff will be using the word LIGHT to tell you a bit about themselves. L is for their life, I is for their interests, G is their God statement, so what God means to them, H is for what makes them happy and T is for their favorite bible text!

Kalee Vanwart, Assistant Camp Director

L: Hello Camp Pugwash! I am so excited to become a member of the Pugwash staff family and I can not wait to meet each one of you this summer. I pray that we have an amazing and awesome time learning more about God, meeting new friends and spending time in nature. First and foremost I am a child of God, a wife and a mother of three (13,10 & 8).  I love youth and kids which is why I am taking a second career path and working on my Bachelors of Education. I am also a part time teachers assistant at our little Adventist school in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. I also volunteer as the director of our Adventurer and Pathfinder clubs of our Sylvan Lake SDA Church.

I: I love running and I am currently training to do a half marathon this May. I also love playing most sports such as softball, floor hockey, snowboarding, biking and swimming. I also enjoy being out in nature; camping and hiking. I love all kinds of music, play the piano and I am learning the ukulele.

G: I was baptized on January 1, 2000. God is the biggest part of my life and without Him I know I could never do half the things I have accomplished. All my praise goes to Him.

H: My family makes me happy. Whether we are working, playing, learning, or experiencing new things I don’t know who else I would rather do it with.

T: Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Oratile Mogae, Co Program Director

L: Hi guys! My name is Oratile, I’m originally from Botswana, Africa but I live in Halifax with my parents and little brother. I’m a university student at Saint Mary’s University studying Business. Pugwash is my favorite place to be in the summer, from the beautiful sunsets at the beach to hanging out with all the youth that come to camp. I’m so excited to show you guys what we’ve got planned this summer. See you soon!

I: I love to travel and see different countries and I am a photographer in my spare time. Music has always been important in my life because when words fail music speaks. I love to sing and play the piano, violin and guitar.

G: I was baptized on October 22, 2015. God is more than I could ever need. He met me at my lowest and still chose to love me.

H: Being with my family makes me happy, but not just my real family but my church family and friends too. My family is my home.

T: Exodus 14:14, “The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.”

Samara Belhomme, Co Program Director

L: Hey! My name is Samara. I’m from Montreal but have been living in the Maritimes for the past 7 years with my parents, sister and brother. I’m currently taking a gap year, but I will be off to Burman university this September to study secondary education. I’m so excited to be at camp this year because I have such a passion for young people and just love being around them. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone this summer.

I: I’m an artist and my favourite art forms are, printmaking, film photography and painting. I also really love horseback riding snowboarding and the occasional swim. I’m also very passionate about music. I sing, play the guitar and cello.

G: I was baptized at Camp Pugwash a few years ago and am so grateful to have had such an amazing experience. God is my best friend and my rock and I don’t know what I would do without him.

H: My family including my dog(patches) makes me happy. They bring so much joy to my life and keep me grounded.

T: Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Cheryl Hamilton, Spiritual Director & First Aid

L: Hello campers! I can’t wait to see you this summer! My family lives in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, where I am the proud wife of David Hamilton, a pastor, and mother of Nathan, Rebekah, and Andrew Hamilton.

I: I love to sing, canoe, hike, teach, and help people.  I love cultures and I have worked in several different countries as a teacher or as a nurse.   I’ve learned so much from the people I served.

G: I have always loved the Lord and I love serving Him.  I can’t think of life not serving Him.  He is my greatest joy!

H: I also love learning new things, helping people, and sharing Jesus with them.

T: Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
